The Improv Experience

For those of you not in the know, I took part in an 'Introduction to Improv' class at the UW Hillel (the Jewish Students' Association), organized by the Hillel and 2 members of Quiet Monkey Fight, Dan and Jed. We met every Tuesday and basically messed about for 1.5 hours, having fun, laughing and just doing improv work.

The experience itself was generally good - though I do think we would've benefited more from more time AND more people participating. But we had a good time and we generally enjoyed each others' company, and Dan II (that's what I call him, haha) and myself had the chance to show off what we had learnt over the month. It wasn't the greatest performance but it was a nice ending and left us generally happy. :)

So here's a 'class photo':

Dan II, Dan, Jed and myself. The crutches are Jed's. :)

And the 'graduation video':

enjoy folks! I know I did. :) Props too to Luc and Bob who took time out to watch me, even though Casey was having her birthday celebration. I feel... Decidedly unguilty. :p

Just a continuation of the photos of the night which fell to me surreptitiously. :p

Me and Casey (L) and Krista (R) - Tris and his Taiwanese fetish continues.

The other folks from the table. I'm a bit hardpressed to remember names but faces la huh.

Me and Luc.

So that's it for the photos from last week - Here's hoping for more exciting times this week. :) Still a bit seh from blood loss but to be expected I suppose.

And A Mindblowing Weekend

It's been a good week, and hopefully the start of new exciting turnarounds that leave Tris a little happier as a conceptual whole. :)

I went for the TSA Semi-Formal Dinner over the weekend, and it was hella fun. I think some of my friends were a little disappointed at the lights (the lack thereof rather, meaning we were in a dark room without flashy thingies) and the music (which I thought was damn good - the usual RnB fare that I craved), but the most important thing for me was that I spent it with friends, had a great time and enjoyed myself.

No, no chicks as usual that I danced with but somehow Tris felt better here than at Luxy. :p

So, some photos from the event:

The bunch of us that went together.

Tris and his 2 homeboys Bob and Luc.

The above photos to prove that I was there and not some delusional episode taking over my mind. :p

Me and Angela - Miss Taiwan for the night. No it's not a joke and yes she's really nice. A lot of these photos were from her camera.

The slutty shot - compulsory AND made the girls laugh.

I have a picture with me and the 2 cute Taiwanese chicks floating about somewhere on their camera but they have not passed it to me yet. Once that gets to me Tris promises to show his night was not in complete waste.

Mum, Dad, I was not drunk. I just get red easily and dance like that. I promise.

The Red Lion Hotel - I had a damn good time, and the hope is real that we shall have opportunities to recreate the fun. :)

So suffice to say, it's been a damn fun week, and this week looks to get even better. I'm meeting the other Singaporeans for dinner on Wednesday, have an improv performance on Thursday and lunch with the Thais on Friday and dinner with law people (I think) on Friday. Swell week huh? :)

Only bummer is the exams coming up, but Tris never lets that bother him now.

Oh, and a personal appeal from my achy left arm:

Please donate blood! It only takes up an hour of your time but could save someone else's life. This is one cause I personally swear by and the funky green bandage and little ache is but a small price to pay.

Ok folks, on with my starting-to-get-fantastic life. :)

It Was A Good Day

And I had the insanest of best moods this morning, happily singing away. :) It's all a bit weird, but there you go.

1) Met another Singaporean at Bible study - his name is Dan, he's in Bellevue (which is nearby) and we're going for dinner with other Singaporeans he knows next week. WHOO! Roxx.

2) Met another Singaporean at this event:

If you're interested, you can email me to ask more. For the primer, you can check out the wiki entry right here. I have my own take but suffice to say you'll have to email me to get more.

anyhow, met another Singaporean who's been in America for 5 years now, and we had dinner so that was pretty fun. The only thing I will say is that this other girl of Chinese origin also ignored me throughout, and I'm not entirely convinced it was because she was shy. So much for solidarity.

3) Making new friends in school. :) And meeting some old ones over the course of the week, so ROXXOR.

Tris is happy for once, and won't be emo for you all to see. :) More pics should be up over the week! :D

For My Amusement...

Because in some sense, it lets me know I'm not alone. :)

And the stupid shit Tris must deal with in America:

Be not deceived folks - Your eyes do not lie and this shit hits the sky. I had to swallow some pride in taking this picture. Pronounciation I can deal with, but 'accent reduction'? You mean American's DON'T have an accent? Closeminded $%!$!&#*@!(rs.

My CNY

Turns out I wasn't exactly CNY-less after all, but the story of which is pretty interesting. Let Tris relate.

On Monday afternoon, I was walking back to Law School after my IR class, alone and depressed and telling basically myself, "God, I feel suckily alone. I wish I had some company."... When I met Luc, the Taiwanese dude on exchange, with another guy Bob, who was also on exchange from Taiwan. Upon their kind invite I had lunch with them at a Chinese restaurant nearby. As the convo developed, we got to talking about CNY and how we were celebrating it, and they basically invited me to join their Taiwanese contingent for huo guo on Thursday.

Sure, there was a little language difficulty since my Chinese wasn't as fantastic as I'd like to believe, BUT it was fun, full of laughter and jokes and joy, and basically filled up the otherwise dominating silence that has been my life thus far. Hard to imagine otherwise in a Chinese restaurant with 17 other people in the party, a very cute old lady who was asking us a lot of questions about CNY and our huo guo, and basically good company. Thank God indeed - it was a glorious evening, and I felt very fuzzy though it was cold as heck outside.

Didn't take as many photos as I'd liked, but the 2 that I do have, I share with you:

The 3 girls who dominated the laughter at our table: Joanne, Angie and Lily. Lily being exceedingly loud at every juncture.

Bob, Shouyang (I think that was his name), Luc and me - crazy Chinese boys who had a heck of a night.

So it was simple, and food wasn't fantastic. But over CNY, as I told Wendy, it's all about company - and the ending MSN video call with my family back home made this CNY one to remember. :) Almost made me feel like I never left at all.

17-14: The World's Most Beautiful Numbers

The storyline dominated my day, really. We had the undefeated New England Patriots, who had beat all before them in 18 straight games with unstoppable offense, quarterback protection and a new running game they didn't know they had; against the upstart New York Giants, who were not expected to be at SuperBowl 42 when the season started, who had a shaky quarterback, dubious secondary defence and a feeling of luck with them throughout the playoffs. The Pats were 14 point favourites to win.

And Eli Manning did it.

Shaking off his 1st half interception, with less than a minute to go, Eli pulled off the ultimate captain's heroism and drove his team all the way into the endzone for a touchdown, after this piece of magic. The Giants defence were the MVP for me in the game - led by the ageless Michael Strahan, they kept sacking and harrying and forcing Tom Brady about and around, making the Pats look useless and Brady magic-less. Though they could've done a better job on the 2nd touchdown that forced Eli's magic act - perhaps it is only in the face of adversity do mortals become legends.

So, kudos to the New York Giants - for beating the Patriots (I shall leave my venom for another day) and for doing what no one thought you could.

Incidentally, that makes back-to-back Superbowl MVP brothers in Peyton and Eli Manning. Archie Manning must be a pretty proud dad, his sons came good in consecutive years. :)

Oh, and for my girlfriend: I thought this ad was right up her alley. Happy VDay Poo! :) -muah-
